TerraFly is an interactive vehicle for flying over remote sensed imagery
from different regions of the world. The extensive database used to fuel
this flight is provided by Sem-ODB, a highly efficient semantic database
management system.
TerraFly uses a variety of remote sensed data, some of which include
several spectral sensors. While the user flies over the remotely sensed
imagery, a geographical map of the area he is flying over is displayed
simultaneously so that the user can identify his current location on
the remote sensed imagery. Users can fly over the color composite
image of their choice by selecting any three sensor combinations and the
system also gives the user control over the intensity of the colors in the
imagery. A Geographical Names Information System Database is also included
so that the user can select the name of locale and be instantly transported
to that area on the remotely sensed image. In addition, users can virtually
zoom into an area by switching to a higher resolution data set.
